February Favourites

So first week of February I packed my bags and headed to California taking with me, all my skincare essentials and makeup. I knew the weather wasn’t going to be hot and humid like Singapore. It was Winter over there, dry and slightly chilly; so obviously my current skincare and makeup routine needed to be tweaked to accommodate these changes. This post is all about the products that stood out this month helping me cope with all these changes…

…..my favourites for February.

Beauty and skincare favourites Lamer Diptyque Chanel Tom Ford

La Mer hand cream – The most hydrating hand cream I’ve ever used. This was the first purchase I made the second I got to SF. My hands were dry and felt so parched after that long flight and I needed an SOS solution to take care of them and this was it. What I love the most is, even though it’s a thick cream, once you spread it on and massage it into you hands, it doesn’t feel horribly greasy, which is a good thing. It protects your hands from loosing moisture and keeps them feeling comfortable and supple; I carried this in my handbag everyday. In case you were wondering if there was any added SPF, no. This is just purely for hydrating purposes.

Favourites Tom Ford lipstick Giorgio Armani beauty Flash Lacquer

Tom Fords Spring 2014 lipsticks – If I had to pick one thing from all the Spring releases. This would be it. I adore the white packaging. Although I initially felt the need to rebel and whine that I prefer the mahogany casing, the white was a refreshing change for Spring 馃檪 And I am happy I managed to snag a few of them before they go out of stock. To me, the colours that stood out the most were Summer Fling and Firecracker. I used Summer Fling almost everyday in Feb, and still not tired of it!

Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer in 107 – This was my favourite gloss to layer over my TF Summer Fling lipstick. I love how light and moist it is without being sticky. Such a great colour for a polished look.

Lanc么me聽Absolue foundation – There was a reason I packed this for my trip; 聽back in Jan, I tried Absolue out and although I loved the texture and feel of this, I found it could get a little too dewy. So I thought since it’s deeply hydrating and has added skincare in it, why not test it out in dryer weather. It turned out to be the perfect companion! I shudder at the thought of how my skin would feel with Chanels Perfection Lumiere on. 聽>.<

The Body Shop Shimmer cubes – These are the cutest things ever! Although they are meant for the eyes, there’s nothing stopping me from using these pretty much on any part of my face. You see, when I was packing, I deliberately didn’t pack a daytime highlighter since I was planning on getting the Armani Belladonna that was due to be released soon. So in the mean time, I was highlighterless! It was chaos basically, since highlighters are a must have for me. So I compromised, used the lightest shade in this quad as a highlighter one day and it was love at first swipe. I also love that it’s not gonna burn a hole in your wallet!

Cle de peau Tom Ford lipsticks Diptyque

Cl茅 de Peau concealer stick – This is by far the best concealer that I have ever come across. It’s the perfect balance between pigmentation and creaminess. I love how smooth this is without being overly emollient, and covered everything so effortlessly using just a teeny tiny amount of product. Of course it’s not a steal at $70! But given how little you need to use of this product, it would last you at least two years 馃檪 Definitely a good investment.

脡clat de Corail blush by聽Lanc么me – This聽along with another 3 Blush Subtil colours were packed in my pouch ready for review, and from the lot, this was my favourite. It was a very wearable, simple everyday shade which pretty much compliments any outfit or makeup look I wear. A warm peachy coral shade with a subtle gold shimmer to it. I just loved it so much!

Chanel Joues Contraste in the colour Rose Petale – Another one of my vacay purchases and I got to use it a lot throughout the month. Rose Petale is聽the perfect muted rose shade and聽I love the US formula of these blushes and was happy to pick it up. If you are used to the baked version, let me tell you the pressed one is very very different. I personally love how soft and pigmented this version is, and no longer will I ever buy another baked Chanel blush again!

Diptyque Rosa Mundi – I was just sooo excited to visit the SF Diptyque boutique just to get my hands on this, so I splurged and came home with the entire range, the Rosa Mundi Candle, Eau Rose body lotion and hand cream. The body lotion is my favourite so far. And I used it everyday. Since the Eau Rose perfume isn’t that long lasting, layering it with this helps with keeping the scent going for longer:-) Although the hand cream and the body lotion are permanent releases (thank god!) the candle isn’t. So if you want to get your hands on this, act fast!

That concludes my list of favourites for the past month, hope you enjoyed reading. What have been your favourites for February? I’d love to know!

Wishing you a fabulous March!

Absolue Sublime Rejuvenating Essence Foundation by Lanc么me

There have been quite a few serum foundations hitting the market lately, the YSL Youth Liberator Serum Foundation and I believe By Terry did one as well.

This is my first time trying out one of them and after testing out the Absolue foundation for over a month now, I think it鈥檚 time to finally offer you my thoughts on this.

Testing was done in two cities, humid and hot Singapore and chilly, dry San Francisco. So I can give you an in depth review on how it performs in different climates wear wise.

I am actually glad I packed this for my vacay to SF because none of my existing foundations would have given me enough hydration for that weather! Eeeek!

Lancome Absolue foundation bottle

So what鈥檚 special about this foundation? Apart from the gorgeous packaging, it鈥檚 the high percentage of active skincare ingredients that goes into a bottle of Absolue.聽 Which means over time, this performs as a skincare product would and improve your skins condition.

Lanc么me聽describes聽this as a serum-in-oil foundation. With 45% of active skincare ingredients and powerful precious essential oils.聽 A renewed youthful complexion : Sublime golden glow, smoothed and evened out and visibly transformed.

Lancome Absolue foundation swatch

My first impressions on this were, it was incredibly lightweight, and it goes on very smooth. You could actually use your fingers to blend this in, and it still gives a very professional finish.聽 Looking at the swatches below, you鈥檇 notice that the potion of my hand where the foundation is applied reflects more light, giving it a glow.

Once applied, this foundation feels very hydrating. I鈥檇 recommend this as one of the best foundations for dry or mature skin.

It gives a dewy, youthful glow; unevenness on my skin was visibly blurred in the photographs I took after.

Coverage wise, although this is a very thin, liquidy foundation, it actually gives you a good medium coverage. I myself like to blend it a bit further and get a sheerer coverage and I most certainly wouldn鈥檛 recommend building this to achieve maximum/full coverage.

Wear wise, In San Francisco this lasted me all day with zero blotting, however in Singapore, after around the 4th hour my nose was quite oily.聽 If you have normal or dry skin, this would be very easy to work with, skin definitely would look healthy and radiant all day. But if you have oily or combination skin (like mine), I鈥檇 recommend prepping the skin well with a oil control primer before application. You’d still look glowy, minus the oil factor.

Final thoughts

It鈥檚 definitely what I鈥檇 consider a high-end foundation. The luxurious, golden, glass bottle certainly reflects that and the added skincare benefits make it even more covetable and in my opinion the price is justified. 聽I鈥檇 recommend this highly! I love it so much and it has quickly become my favourite foundation in my stash 馃榾

Lastly here鈥檚 a pic of me I took off my phone, with this applied. 聽As you can see skin looks very smooth and I haven’t retouched it or covered up any blemishes.

Lanc么me Blush Subtil – Spring 2014

Spring is my favourite season makeup wise. All the vibrant pinks and peaches come out to play while the deep reds and burgundy shades hibernate. This聽year, one of the launches I聽anticipated聽the most was the latest Lanc么me Blush Subtil colours which released in Singapore early February.

Here’s a look at what’s on offer.

Lancome Blush Subtil blusher spring 2014

There were 6 Blush Subtils in total (though I am only reviewing 4) formulated with new translucid technology, Translupearl鈩. Which essentially is, instead of the regular talc particles that goes into making blush, this new technology uses a combination of coated talc 聽and transparent fillers which result in long wearing and intense colours without the ‘ashy’ undertone.

here are some (heavy) swatches I photographed under natural lighting conditions

脡clat de Corail聽 being my favourite, I used it almost everyday, either alone or blended with another colour using this as a highlight. Just adds a tinge of warmth and shimmer for a very fresh and feminine result and I was most satisfied with how long it lasted although it was one of the lighter shades.

Rouge in Love was my go to 鈥榓fter dark makeup鈥 shade; a vibrant warm red with shimmer. I love how pigmented it was and would easily be visible even in the most dimly lit restaurant. For application though I鈥檇 suggest using a very light hand and building up the colour slowly, as it鈥檚 very easy to go overboard with this shade.

Rose Paradis聽 is a fun, bright pink shade for lazy days. Just a bit of mascara and lip gloss paired with this, instantly brightens up any look and keeps you looking polished. This blush was almost matte with just the tiniest bit of satin finish to it (although when applied, the mild shimmer is not noticeable at all).

Figue Espi茅gle is a great everyday shade, which would especially be flattering on light to medium complexions. Although it鈥檚 not as bright and vibrant as the others this could easily be built up to a stronger look. In fact, all of these blushes are buildable and could be worn by even those with the deepest complexions 馃榾

Wear wise, these lasted very well.聽My makeup is usually applied around 10, after which I go through a heavy day of shopping, sightseeing, lunches and coffees. However with all that, these still last around 6 hours without any touch ups.

I also loved how it melds seamlessly onto the base with minimum blending, leaving no harsh brushstrokes. Just a flush of colour that looked airbrushed. I noticed no powderiness or dryness, they were very soft to the touch.

Blush Subtil blushes聽are available at all Lanc么me counters in Singapore for SGD 60.

Lancome Vernis In Love – Etincelle D’Argent | Review, photos & swatches

If you picked up this nail lacquer from Lancomes Holiday collection, lucky! Unlikely it’d still be available as it was a limited edition shade, but I didn鈥檛 want to keep the loveliness which is 071 Etincelle聽 D鈥橝rgent to myself,聽 just in case there was a chance you’d still be able to hunt this down!

Le Vernis 071 is a cool toned silver tinsel shade, textured and MATTE.

What I loved most about this lacquer was the consistency, not too runny or thick and it applied free of streaks achieving full opacity in just two coats.

Upon application of a top coat (in this case the Guerlain gel coat) I found the colour intensified and the glimmer more pronounced. It’s also worth noting that the top coat did not alter the textured surface, or turn it glossy.

*All photographs were taken sans top coat, so you see this nail lacquer true to form.聽

Other observations-

This nail lacquer felt heavy on the nails. Almost strengthening them with its sandy shimmer.聽 I considered that a plus, as my nails are quite thin and prone to chipping.

Drying time between coats was less than five minutes!

The wider brush shape of the Lancome nail lacquers give better control and made it easier to reach the sides of the nail for a neat finish.

Bottom line, I consider it unique and well worth splurging on 馃檪 too pretty to pass up.
